Through Chicago and Back

Had a great trip to Chicago with my lovely wife this weekend! We drove up Friday and spent the afternoon exploring the region surrounding Millennium and Grant parks. The weather was awesome, and we enjoyed some nice time strolling around hand in hand. We left our kids with my wife’s parents for the weekend – something we haven’t done since we’ve had kids. It was hard in a way, but also gave us a valuable chance to invest in our relationship by doing some fun things that would not have been as much fun while wrangling two little kiddos. However, we were both sad that they weren’t there to enjoy some of the playground setups installed at Grant Park. They are amazing.

After walking around for a bit, we travelled a few blocks to the River North area in order to have dinner at the Boho Bohemian House. It was super tasty, and the atmosphere was wonderfully distinct. I ordered some chicken paprikash, and my wife enjoyed a plate of yummy spätzle. Definitely a do-again restaurant (if we ever revisit the neighborhood).

After dinner we traveled north to Lake Zurich in order to attend a wedding the next day. It was picture perfect. They bet on good weather, and it payed off! It was an outdoors wedding next to a picturesque pond under clear blue skies. The beautiful setting was accompanied by a beautiful focus on the gospel as the pastor pronounced our friends to be husband and wife.

Sunday morning we decided to stop at Addison Street Community Church for worship. We found this church listed on the 9Marks Church Registry, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The entire service helpfully focused on scripture as the word of God, and I would say about 50% of the congregation (of about 30 people) made sure they extended their personal welcomes to my wife and me. In short, our time of worship was a blessed mix of doctrinal clarity and warm fellowship. If you live near Addison and are looking for a church, you might want to consider a visit!
