I just returned home from another trip to India, during which we visited with our longtime friend A. Gunasekaran. He lives by the village of Chettipatty, which is outside the city of Omalur, which is near to the larger city of Salem in Tamil Nadu. Guna (as we affectionately call him) pastors a church, serves as administrator for an orphanage, oversees a network of community outreach centers, and is respected as a leader amongst a growing collection of pastors and churches in Tamil Nadu and Andra Pradesh. You can learn more about Guna’s ministry at www.streamsofmercyindia.com.
During our visit, I enjoyed eight opportunities to preach messages from Philippians, James, and from passages such as Isaiah 53 and Romans 8. Our team of four (including myself) also visited with several groups of children attending community centers. At these centers the children receive one or two meals a day along with tutoring help as they complete their homework and study for school. Each center regularly helps approximately 40 school-age children. It was such a joy to spend time with them, and to speak to them about the hope that we find in the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
